The Olympic Lions of Cameroon have failed to qualify for the final phase of the 2015 edition of the All Africa Games after playing a 1-1 tie in Yaounde on Sunday April 12, 2015.
The draw in Yaounde could not take them through to the final phase of the competition after their 0-1 loss in Zimbabwe a fourth night ago.
It was the lions that open scores at the extra time in the first half through team work providing the fans with a brief moment of celebration.
Their struggle to take the lead during the early minutes was rejected by the Zimbabwean selection who were ready to defend their one goal lead obtained in the first leg.
Back for the second half, the lions accelerated with the aim of increasing tally but their struggle was stopped for a while when a careless error from the attack line yielded them a penalty; a penalty Blessing Moyo converted into a goal at the 68th minutes for the Zimbabweans to make it 1-1 (2-1).
The Olympic lions deployed various strategies to upset the score line in vain as the central referee blew final whistle as Zimbabwe grabbed the qualification ticket (2-1 aggregate) to the detriment of the U-23 lions.
Fans and supporters left the stadium disappointed with the scores but happy with the fighting spirit put in place by the Olympic Lions.
Some of the fans attributed the failure of the lions to the poor preparation experienced during the first leg where the lions had to pass two nights in the Kenyan Airport before playing their qualification match.
Cameroon will be represented in the 11th edition of the All African Games by the Lioness of Cameroon who qualified after beating Ethiopia 2-1 (4-2) in Yaounde last Saturday April 11th 2015. The All African Games will take place in September 2015 in Congo-Brazzaville.
