Canon of Yaounde 22-year-old goalkeeper, Jean Effala Komguep attempted taking his own life on Saturday, October 31, 2014 at his resident after taking overdose drugs, reveals club Director General, Soliel Nyassa.
Soliel Nyassa made the revelation in a radio press release aired on Amplitude FM Radio Station in Yaounde.
It is alleged that the former Coton Sport of Garoua goalkeeper was frustrated with the refusal of his former club, UMS Loum refusal to grant his transfer for over six months after his move to Canon is stalled by paperwork.
Jean Effala was rushed to a private clinic in Yaounde where he is currently in a coma and receiving treatment.
It should be noted that in 2012, Coton Sport of Garoua refused to loan out the unsettled keeper, Effala to Canon Sportive of Yaoundé.
Since moving from Fovu of Baham some years back, Effala Komguep has found playing opportunities hard to come by and had opted for a permanent move to Canon of Yaounde where he had gained more playing time.
The 22 year old keeper first came to the limelight when he helped Fovu of Baham clinch the Cup of Cameroon in 2010 before skippering the Cameroon U20 squad to the final defeat of the African Youth Championships against Nigeria. He was equally at the 2011 FIFA World Youth Championships where Cameroon was eliminated at the round of 16.
