Clinton N’jie, Cameroon striker who plays for Olympic of Marseille in his first cap for the Indomitable Lions has opened the scoring counter in the 2-0 win against the DR Congo returning the team to winning ways.
This is the first win after Cameroon qualified for the World Cup against Tunisia 4-1 and thereafter displayed poor results during the perilous 2014 World Cup during which the Lions came out with no point losing all three matches.
The match which counts for the first leg 2015 African Nations Cup qualifiers saw N’jie open scores late in the first half connecting brilliantly a pass from Vincent Aboubakar thereby ushering in luck for Cameroon and the new look team Finke is building.
Playing a more collective game, Finke’s squad dominated the first half with Njie at negotiating the first two corner kicks for the Lions.
The defense with the combination Oyongo Bitolo of Red Bulls in the US and Captain Stephane Mbia FC Seville work well though the midfield was not pulling the team upfront. Choupo Moting had at times to work hard taking balls from the midfield forward.
The second half showed a more physical game from the Leopards who attempted to reduce scores in vain.
Young goalkeeper, Fabrice Ondoua of FC Barcelone frustrated their efforts, making strategic saves and could easily be named man of the match.
While the Ondoua who is composed and does not panic in the approach of the opponent, he was on holiday in the first half and had a field day in the later part with pressure mounted by the opponents.
Complementing the efforts of the goalkeeper, Vincent Aboubakar increased tally with a pass from Choupo Moting, dribbling the Congolese defense, scoring his third goal fro Cameroon in addition to the 17 for club last season.
Winning the Leopards 2-0, many analysts are of the opinion that the score was good for a start to give the team confidence but not enough if they have to play a stronger side like Ivory Coast.
The youthfulness, solidarity and serenity of the players are hailed as positive aspects to cultivate further for a team that showed pleasure and collective in play.
