Volker Finke’s list of players preselected for the African Nations Cup qualifier match against DR Congo is awaited in the hours ahead as he was expected in the country today.
Though there have been initial allegations that Finke had given the list to the Team Manager Rigobert Song Bahanag for onward transmission to Fecafoot as has been the practice for some time now,Le Jour quoted Laurence Fotso, Fecafoot Communication Director who denied the existence of the list at the federation.
Speculations have been rife that there is a tsunami brewing in the national team with some players to be left out following the contribution in one away or the other to the poor performance of the Lions at the 2014 World Cup.
Some of the names that keep coming are Lions captain Samuel Eto’o, Landry Nguemo, Jean II Makoun, Charles Itandje alias ‘nine sifters’, Alexandre Song officially serving his punishment for elbowing Mario Manzukic on the back.
New faces are also expected in the national team like the best scorer of the local championship, besides players like Cedric Djuegoue and Feudjou Loic who have been competitive with their club in the CAF Cup competition and the League 1 championship.
Finke’s arrival is awaited as there have been speculations that his days in the national team are numbered with the federation and the Ministry waiting for the go ahead from the Presidency to appoint a new coach.
Names of persons to succeed Finke such as Pierre Ngue Ngue, former Racing coach and certified physical education teacher are equally circulating.
