Cameroon Coach, Volker Finke has not changed his winning team except re-call, centre forward, Mohamadou Idrissou who plays for German side, FC Kaiserslautern in the 23-man squad for the friendly against Portugal.

The 33 year old was last played for Cameroon in the away leg against Tunisia and not called for the return leg in which the Lions defeated Tunisia 4-1 to qualify for the World Cup.

He would fill the vacuum in the absence of Achille Webo, injured.

Idrissou started the season well and is in form having scored a total of eight goals for the Bundesliga and DFB –Pokal.

The team in preparation for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil would play a test match against Portugal in Lieria in on March 5.

Cameroon lodged in Group A with host Brazil, Mexico and Croatia is in need of a good preparation to off-set their opponents.

Finke is hoping to inject young blood in the World Cup squad and has Frank Bagnack, centre-back who plays for Barcelona B team for the first time to the national team.

The 18 year old who signed for Barcelona B in 2008 is among the young players like Jean Marie Dongou whom Finke is banking on.

No local player has been called to the squad at a time when Finke is rounding up a camp for local players whom many hoped would find their way into the national team.

But, the coach told the players that the training was intended for future selection probably during the training in Austria ahead of the World Cup.

Absent due injury is Stephane Mbia, though, Jean Armel Kana Biyik who also sustained an injury on the left thigh has been called-up.

The regular players like, Aurelien Chedjou who scored last evening to frustrate Chelsea are maintained and Finke has not changed his winning squad.

  1. Manfred Otto says:

    Dear Mr. Ouko,
How much do you know Mr. Finke? I have followed Finke’s job now for over 15 years. Finke is one of the best Coaches we got in Germany. It’s thanks to Finke that many African footballers had a chance to play in Germany.
Please we all Africans need to support our representatives.
