The four time African player of the Year, Samuel Eto’o could be on his way back to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala when his contract with the Blues expires in June.
The 32-year-old had previously stated he wants to return to Mallorca where he spent three years between 2001 and 2004 in the summer as a result of his son’s wish. But, Anzhi coach Gadzhi Gadzhiyev has stated he may return to Russia.
Gadzhiyev said on the club’s official website: “The return of Samuel Eto’o to Anzhi is realistic given the fact he has an excellent relationship with owner Suleyman Kerimov.
“We talked during our recent meeting in London and Samuel confirmed this possibility.” It was in Anzhi that the Cameroon international became the world’s highest paid player when he joined Anzhi in 2011.
There are also speculations that he may see his contract extended in Chelsea. The Cameroonian striker is still to score after the hat-trick against Manchester United. He has hit six goals in 16 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season.
