The government through the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education has renewed confidence in the China Machinery Engineering Corporation for the construction of stadia in Cameroon.
Following the construction of the Limbe 20,000 capacity stadium that is almost complete, Adoum Garoua, Minister of Sports and Physical Education signed a contract with this company to construct an athletics track and volley ball pitch among others in Limbe.
CMEC would also construct the Yaounde Olembe 60,000 and the Douala 50,000 capacity stadia.
Adoum said CMEC is willing to continue building infrastructure for Cameroon the reason for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU.
He said this would be followed by a convention and the financial package involved discussed in due process when the Ministry in charge and and CMEC work out the details for an accord to be signed.
The Director of CMEC, Li Chang Xin on the occasion said following the initial contract signed in 2008, the company came to agree on the details.
The construction of stadia falls in line with the National Sports Infrastructure Development Programme, PNDIS.
With the Limbe stadium 96 percent complete, Bafoussam started and plans to construct the Yaounde and Douala stadia, there is hope that Cameroon would be ready to host the big sporting events such as the African Women Championship in 2016 and Nations Cup in 2019 if Cameroon wins the bid.
