The pre-season for most of or all of the Cameroonian attack line has been very interesting. Almost all Cameroonian attackers have been on target scoring at least a goal for their teams. This seems to be an interesting development given the fact that after Eto’o scored against Togo in Yaoundé, there has been no other lion able to make the fans celebrate a goal, wearing the indomitable lion’s shirt.
If the Libyans are doing their homework right, they should be worried because confidence is coming back into the lion’s den and the attackers are firing on all cylinders.
This scoring problem is a welcome headache for the indomitable lion’s head coach Mr. Finke. A headache because he needs to come up with not only a style of play to suit the attackers to score goals but also make sure these attackers score the needed goals, but are comfortable with Finke’s attacking strategy and style.
Senegal recently, had attackers who were top strikers in many European leagues. They failed to reproduce their goal scoring abilities and attacking form with their national team. It goes without saying that Senegal in the past years has been just as poor as the lions from Cameroon. They struggled to impose themselves in the African continent after marveling in the world cup 2002 Korea/Japan. In 2010 and 2013, they did not qualify for the African Nation’s cup and while in Gabon in 2012, they were humbled out of the tournament in the first round. The high expectations the fans had on them turned into anger and rioting during a soccer game in Dakar Senegal.
It is important to note that the time Senegal started going through this scoring drought or lack of success, Finke was working in Senegal. Finke is now manager of the Cameroon National Team and the Cameroonian team is yet to score a goal in three games. Hopefully he paid some attention to football and probably learned a lesson or two on how to tackle this luxurious problem he is facing or will face with the Cameroon team.
During this period of drought, the main goal scores of the national team were out injured. They are currently back and are all in top form. Scoring goals this time around with the return of Eto’o and Choupo should be a matter of when. The fans cannot no longer go for 4 straight games without a goal.
