Indomitable Lions Coach, Volke Finke has said it would be important to strike a balance between the attack and the defence against DR Congo on Sunday.
Finke spoke to the press as the lions returned to camp in Mbankomo. He identified the lapses observed against Togo which he intends to correct against the DR Congo.
Cameroon plays Congo for the 5th day of the World Cup qualifiers with six points ahead of the DR Congo with five points after a draw with Libya.
Ahead of the encounter, Finke hopes his squad would look for early scoring chances and not wait for too long, but also, try to control the ball away from Cameroon’s box and goal.
We are doing our best to be in the best tactical strategy against the DR Congo. Following the absence of communication that led to the second goal for Togo, Finke stressed the need for communication among players. “Who is responsible to go in one against one, while the other watches his back”. He says this is an individual tactic and not to learn at 22 players ought to be aware. The player who is the defence has to give the command and not the player on the ball.
Answering to the positional changes for some players, Finke appreciated Danny Nounkeu whom he says was one of the best players as right defender seeing no reason to change him now.
For Assou Ekotto he said he has had a long term of injury and the reason he is not ready to play on artificial turf.
Though Samuel Eto’o Fils is still following his treatment in Europe, Finke is still nursing the hope he may be ready for the Sunday match.
Meanwhile, Finke hailed the personalities on Nkoulou, Enoh and Song as good for the ambiance in the football, which today, is the balance between joy, passion, sentiments and seriousness.
For him, three portrayed an ambiance necessary to form a team with the mentality and spirit of winning, adding that there is need characters like these.
To Finke, Togo controlled the match in Yaoundé, but, there are matches where the team plays well but does not win. When attackers cannot score, we cannot change that but work for the development of the players.
