Fecafoot President’s former Director of Cabinet , President of the Football Club, Etoile Filante of Garoua and Candidate for the Presidency of the North Regional Football League, Abdouraman Hamadou Babba, has criticized the legal framework under which elections at the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, are holding.
Meeting with journalists at the Yaoundé Hilton Hotel, Friday, May 24, on the eve of the elections, Abdouraman said FECAFOOT texts have been violated by the incumbent president of the Federation, Iya Mohammed and his collaborators.
He expressed worries that the outcome of the Elective General Assembly will be a mirror of what happened during elections in the Regions.
According to him, “we cannot count on the electoral commission of the federation, which is supposed to be independent, but which unfortunately is not, and has chosen to be quiet on the irregularities recorded in elections at the regional level”
He cited some misdeeds noted in Garoua on May 11 and elsewhere during the elections into the regional football league, leading to the cancellation of these elections in the North and Littoral Regions by the National Olympic Committee of Cameroon.
To further buttress his point, the Garoua Football Club President, quoted article 8 of the FECAFOOT Electoral Code, which specifies the role of the electoral commission in elections, and said the current electoral college of FECAFOOT is not legitimate.
“I’m curious to see the attitude of Cameroonian authorities on Election Day. I will see if the Minister, Adoum Garoua, will play his supervisory role, guarantee the respect of laws and protect them, or whether he will allow the texts violated again” Abdouraman told journalists.
Going by him, the other two contenders for the FECAFOOT Presidency, J B Ndeh and Marlene Emvoutou, are doomed to failure with the current texts applicable to the elections.
“Even President Biya cannot win elections in FECAFOOT with the current texts in place” he retorted, adding that there are “electorates who have been in the federation for 13 years and their mandate is renewed every four years automatically”
Abdouraman who had also worked for the World Football Governing Body, FIFA, as head of the FIFA Electronic Project for Cameroon and Africa, used the Press briefing as an occasion to explain the circumstances that led to his resignation in FECAFOOT in 2009; noting that it was for fear of his life and that of his family, that he took the decision to step down.
