Cameroon has appointed former German player and manager Coach of the Indomitable Lions.

He takes over from Jean Paul Akono who has worked for eight months without a work contract presently recovering from a malaise.

Finke was shortlisted from 86 candidates with Frenchman Raymond Domenech who has been the favourite for the job and Antoine Kambouare whose conditions may not have been acceptable to the Cameroon government.

The 65 year old made his debut in coaching in 1969 with TSV Stelingen from where he moved to Hannoverscher SC until 1975.

Former manager of FC Koln and Urawa Red Diamond is taking over the national team at a time when the national team is ranked 62 on the Fifa May ranking.

He takes the Indomitable Lions to the friendly against Ukraine on June 2 and the World Cup qualifier matches on June 8 and 16.

Finke was Bundesliga Champion in 1992, 1993, 2002 and 2003.
