Is the call for the recruitment of Indomitable Lions coach a sham? Some sports lovers seem to think it is. Their reason, the name of the new coach is a forgone issue, known in advance and the process just a formality.

Lions4life learnt, the Puma man for the job, Volke Finke, was in Cameroon during the Cameroon-Togo match and the 2-1 win against Togo help to delay his appointment. Those who know him have even described the attire he wore on that day and the colour.

However, about 100 candidatures for the top job of Cameroon coach were registered at fecafoot on Thurday April 25. The commission made up of the Technical Directors, Jean Manga Ongune, Etienne Sonkeng, Luc Koa and the Secertary General of Fecafoot went to worked, selected and have to send a short list to the Sports Minister for appointment and contract.

There were 21 files from the French coaches, 12 local coaches, seven Spanish, six from Germany and Portugal each, four from Italy, Ukraine and Switzerland, two from Britain among others.

Big names, Luis Fernandez, Claude Le Roy, Marco Simone, Roger Lemerre, Jules Fréderic Nyongha,  Serbian  Danilo Doncic,  Raymond Domenech, Hubert Velud, Hervé Renard, Antoine Kombouaré, François Zahoui, Lothar Matthaus and  Volker Finke.

Akono Refused To Apply

Meanwhile, Jean Paul Akono refused to apply in line with his philosophy that he cannot apply for a post he is occupying.

Following the arguments by the Team Press Officer, Raphael Nkoa that the call for applications was to regularise the situation of the coach, now that he has not applied, how will such a situation be regularised?

There are equally arguments that that Akono would remain in his post even after the shortlist has been sent to the Minister of Sports. Whatever the case, Cameroonians are waiting for the next move from the Sports Minister, Adoum Garoua.

But,the minister would have to sack Akono from the post before appointing another and pay his outstanding salary even if the salary was not agreed upon.

Many seem to think that the recruitment of a coach at this time T, when the Lions are top of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers is uncalled for.

Public opinion is for the fact that the coach should have been changed last year when Cameroon failed to qualify for the African Nations Cup and not know.

This situation to some, would end up of destabilising the team at a time when all energies should be concentrated for the team to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Cameroon seems to triumph as a country where coaches are sacked when results are at their best.
