Cameroon international, Olympic de Marseille Nicolas Nkoulou, is now the captain of the Cameroon National Football Team, the Indomitable Lions.


He takes up his captain role against Cape Verde during the third round qualifier match of the African Nations Cup this week-end.


Formerly second vice-captain after Enow Eyong and captain, Samuel Eto’o, defender, Nkoulou, has been promoted as principal captain of the team.

Malaga Idriss Carlos Kameni and Alexandre Song of FC Barcelone first and second captains respectively.


“The three captains were promoted unanimously during a technical meeting with players and the staff”, Linus Pascal Fouda the Team Press Officer has said.


The Lions are in camp in Dakar-Senegal where they autographed T-shirts with the Teranga Lions in solidarity with Senegalese flood victims.


Coach, Denis Lavagne had earlier expressed his intension to change the captain when Samuel Eto’o Fils exhausted his eight match suspension.


Former captain, Samuel Eto’o Fils, rejected the national team for the amateurism and bad management.


His refusal to come back to the team gave the coach the leeway to change the captain.


Kameni who is the first vice captain was indexed as Lavagne’s choice of captain.


Former first vice captain, Enow Eyong, who is still recovering from injury lost the opportunity to captain the team on return from his two months suspension for the part he played in the player’s strike in Marrakech.
