The indomitable Lions have started their World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The match played in a half empty Amadou ahidjo stadium saw the Choupo Moting score through a penalty, 12m into the second half.
Cameroon’s golden boy Choupo, attempted to break through the leopards defence line but was faulted at the18 meterbox thus attracting a penalty which he scored beautifully.
However, the encounter that started 10 minutes late saw an energetic start from the Leopards, but the Lions did not let go as they retaliated with two early shots on goal stopped by goalkeeper Robert Kidiaba.
Coach Claude le Roy panicked and made his first substitution 10 minutes into the game. The game before the end of the first half became balanced.
The Congolese team played rough and got two yellow cards in the first half and had several attempts on goal stopped by goalkeeper and captain, Idriss Carlos kameni.
The goal from Choupo Moting motivated the team which pressed upfront with shots on goal deflected by Kidiaba.
Both side tried in vain to penetrate into each others’ defense as the match ended with the Lions taking the lead.
During the encounter Rigobert Song usurped the role of the coach as he suddenly sprang up to shout orders in Lavagnes’ box.
Though the Lions won, Cameroonians think the attack is still problematic and are clamoring for the return of striker Samuel Eto’o Fils.
Many believe that Cameroon does not yet have a coach and needs an experienced coach to make the Lions roar again.
