Four players of the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon were selected in the 2016 African Women’s Cup of Nations, AWCON, Best XI.

Although Cameroon failed to win the trophy, they however, gained the Lions’ share in the competition’s Best XI. Also, Cameroonian midfielder, Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene who plies her trade in Rossiyanka in the Russian Championship, was voted the Best Player of the tournament.

Gabrielle Aboudi Onguéné with 53 appearances for Cameroon, 15 goals and was amongst three players nominated for the Glo-CAF Awards in 2015 is one of the pillars of the Indomitable Lionesses.

Also in the CAF AWCON Best XI are goalkeeper Annette Ngo Ndom, Meffoumetou Tcheno Falone and Raisa Feudjio Tchuanyo.

The Fair Play Trophy was given to Cameroon while Nigeria’s Asisat Lamina Oshoala won the Top Scorer award.

Throughout the competition, a total of 39 goals were scored in 20 games, giving it an average of 2.4 goals per match. Nigeria and Cameroon had the best attack as they conceded just a single goal each throughout the competition. The worst defense was that of Kenya and Mali who each conceded 10 goals in three games.

Nigeria had the best attack with a total of 13 goals scored and Zimbabwe had the worst attack as they left the competition without a single goal.
